BAHIS Interoperability Legislation Debate
Interoperability and information sharing is critical for providing safe, effective, and efficient care. However, as interoperability increases so do privacy, security, and ethical risks.
Debate Topic 1:
As Bill C-27 introduces a groundbreaking requirement for organizations to facilitate data portability for individuals, a heated debate ensues regarding the practicality and implications of this legislation on healthcare and technology organizations. Supporters argue that it is a crucial step towards empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information, however opposers express concerns about the potentially inhibitive burdens that would be placed on organizations to establish and maintain an effective "data mobility framework."
Debate Topic 2:
As the Canadian government introduces Bill C-27 AIDA to address concerns over the ethical and safe use of artificial intelligence, a debate has emerged regarding the need for greater oversight versus potential stifling of innovation. On one side, supporters argue that increased regulation is essential to safeguard against the risks associated with AI, ensuring its ethical deployment. On the opposing side, critics contend that the proposed bill is overly vague and imposes stringent requirements that could prove costly and obstruct beneficial innovation.
